From The Desk of: Fernando Castro

This is Fernando Castro, VP of Research, Development and Engineering at Thermacell.

I came to Thermacell after spending 20 years working in different industries on many large and complex products. Thermacell products may seem simple in comparison, but they are far more sophisticated than they may appear. It is through the careful marriage of engineering and science that our products succeed as highly effective area repellents for consumers.

Achieving this is not easy. It is a challenge to create a product that can perform well in an outdoor environment. I am proud to lead a talented team of dedicated engineers and scientists who work together to make it happen. In a synergistic way, the engineering team designs and tests devices to ensure that they can deliver our formulation effectively and efficiently. In turn, the science team ensures the compatibility of our formulation with our devices. We then conduct extensive biological studies to validate the mosquito repellency we promise to consumers. Additional studies are conducted to affirm the safety of our products. This scientific work is not in the shadows. The results are submitted to regulatory agencies to obtain registrations in the countries where our products are sold.

Thermacell created a new category of products 25 years ago. We started back then with our mat and fuel line of products, which continues today. We are expanding our line of electric rechargeable products launched just a few years ago. And we now have our award-winning IoT-enabled Liv system, which provides smart mosquito repellency for larger areas. Just as we did all those years ago, we continue to innovate and improve the performance of our products and the user experience. We are excited for our upcoming mosquito research and testing facility—one of just a few in the world. This facility will only enhance our capabilities and understanding, promoting further innovation and better products.
